Boo! A Fun Tradition

It's almost that time of year again!  Every year we have a tradition of "booing" our neighbors.  We choose two of our favorite neighbors and make a fun package of Halloween items such as stickers, pencils, pumpkins, and candy for them.  Then we tuck a poem inside on orange paper (that asks that they make up two fun packages to secretly give to others) with the word BOO! on the other side.  When it's dark, Jeff and the girls sneak over to the house, leave the package of goodies on the door step, ring the doorbell and RUN!:)  When you see a BOO! sign on the front door you know that house has been "booed" already.  It's a fun way to spread Halloween cheer and fun to others.:)  Do any of you have fun Halloween/Fall traditions that you love?  How about Christmas?

  1. I want to live by you!
That is the coolest thing ever!
When I was a little girl I would make up little flower bouquets. I put them in little baskets I made and left them on neighbors doors on May 1st (May day) I'm still tempted to do it now. I wonder if anybody still celebrates May day?
Your Boo sounds like a lot of fun!

  2. We always loved the "boo" tradition too. Even though my kids are older now, I just might have to try this one out myself again on a few neighbors. Who doesn't like to get "boo'd!?!"

  3. Oh..."boo-ing" is fun! We did something similar called Secret Santa with an ornament! We are in a new neighborhood so don't know if much of that will be going around!

  4. We love to "Boo" our neighbors. A couple of years ago there were 2 others families doing the same thing on the same night. Quite funny seeing all of us running around after leaving our goodies :)

We also like to go to the pumpkin patch every year.

  5. Oh that sounds like a neat idea. Living in the country I don't think we could do that. We really don't have any traditions such as this. I do love hearing what others do. The only thing I can say is that each year at Thanksgiving I buy each family member their ornament for the tree. I usually get a Barbie one for my daughter and my husband gets something that dipicts something that reminds me of him from the year. This year he has gotten into cooking so I got him a snowman that is grillin and chillin.

  6. We've never done anything like that but it sounds like so much fun!! This neighbourhood is mostly seniors now and the children are grown and moved away. My youngest is 16 and while there are a few young ones, they are few and far between. I wish I had thought of something this much fun when my 2 were younger!

  7. That sounds great. We live in the boonies so we could not really do anything like that but my kids love to dress up and we go to the next town over and go trick or treating. They close the road off so its safe for kids and thousands of people walk the streets. Loads of fun for kids of all ages.

  8. I love your booing your neighbors tradition. We will have to try that. We always make a box in which we place all the halloween goodies and we make a hole in the back so we can put our hand inside without it being seen. Then when the trick or treaters put their hand inside we grab it to scare them. It's fun.
During the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas Eve there is a house in our town with a snowman in the garden. The owner can hear the kids from a special microphone and he makes the snowman talk back to them. The kids think is's great to be able to have a conversation with a snowman. We always go on Christmas Eve to say goodbye to the snowman until next year. Thanks for your comment on my blog, Yes we do have Ben & Jerry ice-cream in England. Our favorite is Phish Food with the marshmallows and chocolate fish in. It's delicious.

  10. Hi Lori! Guess what I got in the mail today???? Well, you already know 'cause you sent it!!! LOL! I got my swap package! ...and I LOVE everything in it! I got it right before I went to pick up the kids, and as I was waiting in the line, I started to open it, but remembered I had to take pictures. I was headed to the grocery store, but I came straight home instead! LOL! I was so excited! David helped me open it! He thought the Bath & Body Works Pumpkin soap was the neatest! I just love the button bracelet. When I saw them on your blog, I was secretly hoping I would receive one! :) I can tell a lot of work goes into making them. And the little witch kid couple is too cute! I can't wait to hang them! And the BOO blocks, they turned out so cute! I will probably have to fight to keep the fall mug all to myself! LOL! David said, "Oh, the whole family will like that!" LOL! You wrapped everything so pretty and all of the ribbons were so cute, they will all be saved & reused! :) I just love everything and I do thank you so much!!! It has been such a pleasure getting to know you, and I look forward to many more shared posts, comments, and friendship!

Yours is in the mail, but I mailed it "snail mail!" :) It was a little heavy, so the postage would have been high if I'd mailed it priority. But, it is coming!

Oh, and the "boo'ed" tradition in your post is a really neat idea! :)

THANKS again! You made my day! :) ~Hugs, Rhonda

  12. How fun is that? We used to have neighbors who did the May Day basket-of-goodies when we lived in Iowa, but I've never heard of the "boo" thing!

  16. Our neighborhood does this as well. The kids have already been asking about it :0}

What a special memory they will have. Minus the one year I rolled {sumersulted} down a driveway!

  17. We do that every year too! We were disappointed last year though. We moved to this armpit of a town and started it....only 2 people followed suit. My kids were so disappointed! They were like....NO ONE DID IT!

We will give it one more chance this year.....wish us better luck!
