Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Kids Eat Free!

I found this book at a yard sale a few weeks ago.  Do you all remember this movie?  I remember some of the fun songs like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we Love You" and "Truly Scrumptious" but I also remember being scared half to death of that man with the long nose that could "smell" children and caught them in his ice cream truck cage!!  Scary stuff.  Anyway, this book is so sweet.  Of course, the book led to us watching this today:

We have watched half of it and it is charming!  I completely forgot about the candy factory, the Dad's inventions, the silly humor, etc.  No scary stuff- yet.  We'll watch the other half tomorrow, but someone is going to have to hold my hand...
I got a coupon via e-mail for one of these:

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Mess!  Oh my....  They make these at my favorite local restaurant and they are yummy!  Then when we got there, we found out that kids eat free this month, too!  We hit the jackpot!  These are the girls when they found out we were getting a Peanut Butter Chocolate Mess:

I have to admit, I was smiling, too.:-)

I got a copy of Paula Deen's new magazine this month and I looked through it while I was on the ellipical machine tonight.  I sure was impressed with all the great recipes!   I also found something that I am putting on my wish list (above).  Do you remember making your own popcorn before we had microwaves?  You melted the butter and then salted it just the way you like it?  Mmmmmm...

  1. Oh my gosh Lori, my kids LOVE that movie! For awhile, we were watching it all the time. Toot sweets, toot sweets is one of their faves. Wonder if that is where those whistle pops came from? I am with you about the creepy kid catcher...shudder...

Yummy dessert and what a bonus to have it for free!!!

  2. Lori, I felt the same way about the scary sniffing bad guy... so the scene in the movie where they are at the beach, and the castle, is in a real town in Germany. I was lucky enough to visit Germany 2 summers ago, and that's one of the places we visited!

I do love Paula Dean-She is my girl and we both love real butter and lots of it! But I had to laugh at you reading a food magazine while on the elliptical trainer! Sounds like something I would do. BTW: That is one of the best exercise machines on the market IMHO. You go girl!

  7. I had to giggle when you said you were looking at a Paula Dean magazine while working out. My parents live in the south and Paula is a huge favorite of the neighborhood. We always joke that every recipe requires at least a cup of butter.
I sing those songs to my girls sometimes and Sloan thinks I am so goofy for it. I am going to have to rent it and watch it with the girls.
Hope you guys are having a great week!

  10. LOVE Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang!! It's absolutely one of my all-time favorites. Dr. H. read the actual book by Ian Fleming (author of the James Bond books!) to our son last year and said it was hardly anything like the movie! I told him I'd stick with the moview.

  16. We make our own popcorn with a Whirly Pop, there are knock off versions at Target. I really like it because we can make kettle corn with it and when you have a gas stove it's as fast as microwave popcorn! Hope you enjoyed your chocolate mess and the new etsy header is very cute, lucky you!
