My Toy Story

While visiting my parents I had the most wonderful walk down memory lane.  I never knew that my parents had kept so many of my childhood toys!  In the girls' room there were baby dolls, Fisher Price Little People, books, Barbies, etc.  My Mom lovingly placed them there for my girls enjoyment.  I'm sure she had no idea how much I would enjoy them, too!:)

Look at all the Madame Alexander dolls in their blue boxes...

Any other Barbie fans out there?  They brought me such joy!  I even had the Donnie Osmond doll complete with a purple outfit and purple socks!  Yes, I vaguely- very vaguely- remember the Donnie and Marie show.  Oops, I'm showing my age here!

Oh, the Cabbage Patch cuties!  I remember when my parents risked life and limb to get these babies.  I even saw Santa put them in the trunk of the car.:)

The Weeble Haunted Mansion was a huge favorite of my sister and me.  Were you lucky enough to have one??  There was a secret room and the cutest little ghost that glowed in the dark!  We held him up to a light bulb so many times that we wore off his face!  I wonder where he went?

The Fisher Price house boat!   Love the captain's chair that moves from side to side and the diving board.  The little people were so much cuter then.  I know that safety is an issue, but they WERE cuter years ago, oh young readers.

The friendly little Fisher Price plane.  Doesn't that pilot look pleasant?  I am getting over my phobia of flying, but if he was my pilot I probably would never have been afraid to begin with.  Little People = fun + safety.

Thanks for taking this trip with me.  The buildings stayed in Florida, but Katie happily took some of the little people home with her.  I will have to take their picture later, as they are lost on a safari in Katie's jungle, I mean room, at the moment...

  1. Oh my gosh! WE loved all the old Fisher Price Little People sets! My sister was a huge weeble fan too.
I didn't have a Donny & Marie doll, but that variety show was a fave of mine. And we even found out where they lived while on a trip to Utah - and had my picture taken by their RV. I had a purple inked pen and paper just in case for an autograph, to no avail.
Purple is my favorite color to this day :)

Thanks for sharing now can I come over to play next time you go to FL!

  2. Love this post! Isn't it great to see another generation enjoying our toys?! My mom saved ALL of my books and so now I get to read the same stories I loved to my kids and now they're their favorites, too!!
    Hope your evening is lovely!

  4. I LOVE this post. I have one of the same Cabbage Patch Dolls (the yellow haired one) and I remember REALLY wanting one with a pacifier. Santa apparently didn't feel like fighting the local crowd for one of the prized gems!

My parents kept many of my stuffed animals and the kids love playing with them now. A few of their favs are E.T., Fievel Mousekewitz (American Tale), and my three beloved Cabbage P.K. It's funny I had a girl, boy, baby boy dolls and in real life I had the same sequence. As little ones, they kind of resembled the trio too.

I loved looking at all the other stuff too. Little People and Weebles were my fave! Such a fun post. Makes me feel guilty for selling some of the kids toys!

I hope your kids are enjoying them as much as you did!

P.S. Did you have the Barbie Dream house of the corvette. Saw a commercial with the dream house the other day and it brought back so many memories.

  6. Hi! I just discovered your blog today and really enjoy it! :)

This was a fun entry to read! I remember a lot of those toys! I like the old Fisher Price Little People better too. I wonder if there were that many children who actually choked on them to prompt the change, or if it was just the threat of litigation and the desire to keep the product "fresh" that prompted the change in design. I always thought Weebles were pretty cute too.

The Cabbage Patch Kid's face peering through the cellophane on the box in the photo with all of the Madame Alexander boxes on the shelves is almost disturbing. It looks like it might be just a head in a box! Yikes!

It is funny that you posted this today as I was trying to decide (just this afternoon) whether or not to hang on to my kid's toys that are sitting in the basement: Little Tikes, dinosaurs, books, etc. Maybe I will . . .

Thanks for sharing the walk down Memory Lane. :)

  8. Hi Lori
Your girls (and you) must have had the most wonderful time playing with all those lovely toys. The Fisher Price Plane looks very familiar. I remember the Cabbage Patch dolls too but never had one. I had a few Barbie and lots of Sindys. The 3 doll Barbie Trunk looks very collectible. What was it like inside? My Mum still has many of my old toys at her house including a farm and various games. Isn't it wonderful to be able to re-live happy times?
    Have a lovely weekend.

  12. It's so much fun to see our kids play with our old toys. During one of my recent trips home, an old friend came by with her kids and the old toys were actually quite a hit.
I am the "parent" of one of the red head cabbage patch kids, too. :-)

  25. Happy birthday dear friend! The array of toys your parents saved is unbelievable. I want to come over and play. I wish my parents had saved all of our toys (my mom was a tosser) I however am not. I hope my girls and my grandchildren someday will have fun with all the things I save for them. My brother and I used to play with his Fisher Price airplane for hours.

  27. Loved Weebles! I still sing the Weebles song--my kids look at me like I'm crazy. I remember some of the Donnie and Marie theme song. And Barbies--my mom had kept 2 of mine. I gave them to Anna. When I could only find 1 of them I asked her about it. She didn't have something to give to her friend at school--so she gave her the Barbie!
And Robin said it was somebody's birthday--Hope it was a good one! ;)

I am so glad to hear that no Cabbage Patch Kids were harmed in the photographing of your toys. ;) I cannot imagine Cabbage Patch heads on my ears! :D

RE. "For some reason, I could not get through to your blog to leave a comment..."

Thanks for trying to stop by. Not very considerate of me to close it up tight and then run around visiting others and leaving comments now, was it? Sorry about that. I am new here at blogger and not sure about staying at the moment. I came here from another site that crashed right before Christmas and lost all of its user's data from the past 6 years or so. My blog here is opened up now, but it is mostly commentary on the old site at the moment so it's not too interesting for most folks to read. :)
