Most people are quite supportive about the fact that we home school- at least to my face. One library lady (mhmmmm...) did ask if my girls ever spend time with other children. Huh? Someday I am going to just go off and lose it with questions like this! My girls spend time with other children, friends even!, every day. Not only that, they get to actually talk with them. When my oldest was in public school she rarely, if ever, got to talk with her friends. No talking in the classroom, no talking in line, and get this- no talking in the lunch room??! If they were caught talking they were isolated and had to eat all alone in the corner. When does all the so called socialization occur? Makes me wonder.
Home schooling works for us for a number of reasons and I don't see us stopping anytime soon. I try not to judge people that send their kids to school as I know there are a number of good reasons for them choosing this path for their family. (Getting their nails done is not one of them.) But, I do get very angry when I frequently read facebook posts about parents that hate having their children at home. They can't wait for them to grow up and move away?? Then why did they have children in the first place??
And, yes, we do school in our pajamas.:)

Preach it Sister!!! Love ya my friend. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteLove this post -- even though I don't homeschool. My cousin homeschools 5 of her 6 kiddos and they are very well behaved, well rounded, social butterflies! I absolutely hate reading FB post or hearing people complain about their kids being at home too. I'm as sad as they are when weekends, holidays and breaks are over. I love spending time with them!
ReplyDeleteThe video is fabulous! Thanks for the laugh!
Blessings,
Allyson
This is hilarious! People seem to always "quiz" my kids to try to see what they know once they find out (or even if they already know) that we homeschool. They ask these absurd genious questions, and it drives me nuts! I'm SURE they ask every kid they see the same questions. Anyway, thanks for the chuckle...and high-five on the post. ; )

High five on this post!! I absolutely loved it. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to hold back my little Irish temper when I get that question, as well.
*Grr, grumble, grumble*
At my hubby's work's belated Christmas party the other night, the woman (a lawyer) across the aisle from me did the "typical" I could never do that schpiel after learning that I homeschool my kids.
ReplyDeleteI told the hubs the next time someone does that to me I'm going to respond with something along the lines of...
If I was teaching YOUR kids in school daily, it would be nobel.
But I'm teaching MY kids every day...so it's weird?
Ugh. I don't get irritated often, and there are lots of supporters out there. But every now and then, it gets under my skin. And this post gave me my much needed op to vent! :P

Lori, I have always admired you for home schooling your girls! I think it is wonderful and you really are a wonderful "teacher" for them. I am sure they will be more rounded young women than the ones that have gone to public school and can't speak most of the time! I have never judge home schooled children or their parents but it does bother me when other people do this. My cousin is home schooling her daughter and she is so smart and about 3 yrs. ahead of the other children her age. Keep on doing what you are doing my friend!! HUGS!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm stopping by from the linky set up on In a pastime paradise. I'm new to blogging as well as homeschooling. It's nice that there are others out there that do things like this. Maybe we will see you around. :)
