1 Peter Finding Encouragement in Troubling Times- Week 9

I just finished week 9 of my 1 Peter Finding Encouragement in Troubling Times (by Sue Edwards) study.  It's the final week of the book study and the lesson covered 1 Peter 5: 1-14.  Peter discusses the relationship between the older and younger members of the church. How are we supposed to get along when there are many differences due to the age gap?  Peter advises the older members to, "not lord over those allotted to your charge, but prove to be examples to the flock." 1 Peter 5:3  To the younger members Peter tells, "be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble". 1 Peter 5:5

This message is as real now as it was when Peter was alive.  Years ago, I was the member of a church that had difficulties having to do with the views of the older members and younger members.  Both groups had differing opinions on how things should be done, what was important and what direction the church should take.  Sadly, many people left the church due to disappointment and heartache.  This life example has stayed with me and 1 Peter made me ponder what could have been done to rectify the situation.  If only the members could have read 1 Peter and taken his advice perhaps the members could have come to an agreement.

*I was given a copy of 1 Peter Finding Encouragement in Troubling Times by Sue Edwards from Kregel Publications in exchange for my honest review.  No other compensation was received.*
