Progeny Press- TOS review

Progeny Press offers over 100 study guides for literature all the way from kindergarten through high school.  Their guides focus on critical thinking, comprehension, literary analysis and Christian application.  Their goal "is to teach our children to think clearly, to understand literature, and to rely on scripture for truth and values, and enjoy themselves while they do it!"

My 8th grader and I reviewed the Across Five Aprils Literature Study guide from Progeny Press.  This is one of their middle school (5th-8th grade) products.  Before we even started reading the book, Across Five Aprils, the Progeny guide had background history information for us to read as well pre-reading activities.  Across Five Aprils is a work of fiction that takes place during the Civil War so we learned a bit about the war, which really set the tone for the rest of our studies.  I loved how the guide introduced history into their literature study.  It made the actual reading and study a much richer experience.

In addition to history the guide also covered:

-vocabulary
-discussion questions
-writing activities
-Bible
-background information
-book suggestions
-field trip ideas

and more..

I really liked the thoroughness of the program and the fact that the Progeny Study Guide was interactive. My daughter typed her answers directly online and saved them.  This saved paper (we use too much of that already) and was quite convenient!

The guides are available in 3 different formats:

-paper bound reproducible booklet- $21.99
-PDF file on CD rom- Opens with Adobe Reader interactive files that can be completed on computer or printed- $18.99
-email attachment- opens with Adobe Reader interactive files-  Can be completed on computer or printed- $18.9
-You can also choose to order a booklet/CD combo set which sells for $27.9

*All formats include full student text and answer key.*
