Some people love shoes.
Some people love to travel.
I love books.
They instruct, motivate, and, quite often, thrill us.
They offer endless possibilities.
For the past 3 nights I have been up until the wee hours (4:00 amish) poring over curriculum. On the positive side- there are so many wonderful books/programs from which to choose. On the negative side- there are so many books/programs from which to choose!
What will be the correct fit for my girls?
I feel so blessed to be able to make that choice for them.
Amanda:
-Bible- Who Am I and What Am I Doing Here? ( Apologia) I will use this with both my girls. Love when I can do that.
-Writing- IEW- SWI-B- I've heard great things and am really excited about trying this program! Createbetterwriters.com and WriteShop
-Grammar- Easy Grammer Plus
-Literature- Lightning Literature (Hewitt Homeschooling) The Hobbit, To Kill a Mockingbird, Treasure Island, etc. Very excited this one. Why? Books, of course.;)
-Home Economics- Christian Light
-Math- Teaching Textbooks and IXL
-Science- GuestHollow.com- (The Human Body) This site is CRAZY AMAZING. Free curriculum created by a wonderfully creative (and very generous) Mom. I'm itching to get started! She's written the lesson plans for you and offers book choices, worksheets, crafts, lap books, recipes, videos and more. WOW.
History- Guesthollow.com- (American History 2)- Yep. Going to use this one, too.:)
-Foreign Language- Visual Latin- I reviewed this last year for The Old Schoolhouse. It's a video class and the teacher is amazing. A bonus is his great sense of humor.:) I'll use this with both of my girls.
It looks like a lot but we won't be doing every class every day.
Amanda will also be taking an Acting Class and an Animation class (cartooning) with our home school co-op as well as attending a homeschool P.E. class this fall.
Katie:
-Bible- Who Am I and What Am I Doing Here? (link above) and possibly this- FREE!
-Science- GuestHollow.com
-History- GuestHollow
-Writing- Essentials in Writing
-Grammar- Easy Grammar and FREE!
-Spelling- FREE!
-Math- IXL
-Foreign Language- Visual Latin
-Art- World's Greatest Artists- FREE!
Katie will be continuing ballet classes, taking an Art class, and attending an American Girl class with our homeschool co-op. She will also take sewing classes at Joann's this fall. Girl Scouts is being discussed.:)
I would love to hear what others are using this fall in their home school. I haven't placed my book orders yet.:)
The only thing I know for sure right now is that Emma will do Teaching Textbooks for her Math. That is it. But at least that is a STEP towards making up my mind. I appreciate you sharing those choices! As an aside the somewhat lazy side of me LOVED Switched on Schoolhouse. But it just really let me down in the Math department. Emma really loved it for Science though. So I think we will be piecing her curriculum together this year. Normally I do one kind for all subjects but it is our 6th year to home school and it is getting easier to know what the girls need and what helps them and so on. Knowing how they learn--Emma is a visual learner and Ella is a tactile learner, makes it easier to choose the best for them. And YES! It is a HUGE blessing to be able to tailor their education to them specifically.
ReplyDeleteLori- We've never tried Switched on Schoolhouse but I've always wanted to try it. Maybe next year? Teaching Textbooks will be a first for us, too. It's exciting but expensive if I make uninformed choices! Praying that my girls will learn and that we'll have a bit of fun, too.:) Looking forward to seeing you at co-op classes! Lori
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful and successful school year!
ReplyDeleteBlessings on your week sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, April! I pray that we will learn a lot and grow closer as a family. I pray that for your precious family, too.:) Lori
ReplyDeleteSheri- Thank you! Hope your week is wonderful, too! Lori

Tristan- Both my girls have participate in Girl Scouts. Their troops have never gone camping, though! lol! We have such a busy academic and social calendar that I just don't know if we will have the time this year to squeeze GS in, too.:( Lori
ReplyDeleteI love me some books too! Can you love them too much? Here's to a wonderful school year!
ReplyDeleteAmy- So glad I'm not alone in my addiction.:) I just don't know how you can get excited about shoes?? But books are endlessly wonderful!:) Lori
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Are you reviewing this year? Miss you guys :)
ReplyDeleteAngel- I won't be reviewing for The Old Schoolhouse this year. Just thought I would post my curriculum to help others. TOS members really helped me this year with their suggestions. I researched and researched some more! Hoping I made the right choices. What are you using? Miss you, too! Lori
