As Waters Gone By- A Literary Masterpiece for your Heart- by Cynthia Ruchti

My Thoughts:

While reading As Waters Gone By I worried about how to convey to you the depth of my love for this book. I savored every page, painstakingly reading and rereading passages that spoke to my every emotion, be it sadness, joy, heartache, hope, and more. I devoured the story and it filled my heart. Oh, to be able to move to Madeline Island and befriend Emmalynn Ross and Bougie Unfortunate...

As Waters Gone By is a story of rebirth, forgiveness, faith, love and friendship. The characters living among it's pages are unique and fascinating and I guarantee you won't soon forget them. Bougie Unfortunate, owner of the Wild Iris Inn, is one of a kind. An old soul with a penchant for "recycled" prom dresses, an unwavering faith in God and a gift for tending wounded souls who've lost their way in life, she's larger than life. Cynthia Ruchti, you've outdone yourself with Bougie- Bravo!  Emmalynn Ross is broken, almost past the point of being salvageable. Her husband is in jail, her dreams of children never materialized, she's lost her home and her business and all that's left is an old hunting cottage and a broken heart. The beauty of Emmalynn is the way that God reached out to her in her brokenness. It's when we're at our lowest that we realize how very much we need the Lord. In love he draws us near and heals us in a way that the world can never do. Hope Elizabeth (Emmalynn's husband's daughter from a previous relationship) is another character that I absolutely adored. Just 12 years old with nowhere to go, she comes to stay with Emmalynn in her darling little cottage on the beach. She's a keeper. :) And Comfort, sweet Comfort, the little dog that wanders into Emmalynn's life. How much better we'd all feel if we had a little Comfort in our lives. Precious.

Needless to say, Cynthia Ruchti is my new favorite author. I'm going to read every one of her books- and reread them. As Waters Gone By is definitely a masterpiece for the heart.

About the Book:
How can a marriage survive when separated by hundreds of miles and impenetrable prison walls?

Emmalyn and Max Ross may have to endure the fight of their lives to mend the tattered fabric of their marriage. His actions ensured she could never be a mother and put him in prison, giving their relationship a court-mandated five-year time-out. On a self-imposed exile to beautiful but remote Madeline Island, one of the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior, Emmalyn has just a few months left to figure out if and how they can ever be a couple again.

Nudged along by the exuberant owner of the Wild Iris Inn and Café, a circle of misfit people in their small town, and a young girl who desperately needs someone to love her, Emmalyn restores an island cottage that could become a home and begins to restore her heart by learning what it means to love unconditionally. Yet even as hope begins to find a place within the cottage walls, Emmalyn still wonders if she's ready for Max's release. She may be able to rebuild a cottage, but can she rebuild a marriage?
