If you are looking for a wonderful, inspiring book to start 2012 this one is it. One Month to Live, by Kerry and Chris Shook, will guide you in "30 days to a No-Regrets Life". It truly makes you think about what it takes to make each day, each moment, really matter in your life.
Each day is written with it's own chapter and topic along with "Make it Count Moments" (Questions to think about and ask yourself) and "Make it Last for Life" activities to really drive the idea home. Forgive people, stop judging others just to make yourself look better, fight fair, live with integrity, love completely and make a difference are some of the topics that are covered.
The personal stories and analogies in One Month to Live are wonderful! The chapter "Sandcastles" was one of my personal favorites. It describes how as children we build sandcastles and soon realize that they won't last. They soon will be washed away by the tide. As adults we create our own sandcastles in life called material possessions- but they will not last forever either. God doesn't mind us having material possessions but "We must learn to be givers rather than takers so that we can make a difference. Why would God want to bless us anymore if we're just going to hoard everything He gives us?" This really made me think about some of the choices I have made.
Another well written chapter was called "Starfish". It tells of a man that is walking along the beach and sees thousands of starfish stranded on the shore. They will soon die but he realizes he can't save them all so he just keeps walking. Later he sees a young boy throwing, as quickly as he can, starfish back into the ocean. The man tells the boy he is wasting his time and that it truly won't make a difference but the boy picks up another starfish and tells the man "I just made all the difference for that one." Wow. Even though the world is vast and we are but one person, we can still make a difference.
One Month to Live is a book written to empower you and challenge you. Read Chapter 1 of One Month to Live here. Enjoy.

ReplyDeleteThis book sounds interesting. Great review! Hugs and Happy New Year!!! :O)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great book...I will add it to my list!
ReplyDeleteSounds really good Lori...Now here is a story for you about how God can make a difference with one little thing. You know how I have that prayer at the bottom of my blog? I wondered to the Lord if anybody ever prayed it, if anyone ever saw it-If it really made a difference for him or not. Well, the other day I saw that a lady pinned it on Pinterest and it got alot of repins-I thought that was so cool-People do see it!!! Yeah Lord!
ReplyDeleteSo the other day Karina (my son's Fiancée) and I were driving to get her wisdom teeth out. She said she has been reading my blog and really likes it-That made me feel good. Then she said she prayed the prayer at the bottom and asked Jesus into her heart, that she was full of chills and her life hasn't been the same since! So here I am driving down the road, tears flowing out of my eyes thanking the Lord for answered prayers...I can barely write it now without crying. We are starting a bible study together once a week! How cool is that? So the moral of the story is...Little things do matter and that God can and WILL use anything for his glory.
Love you!
P.S. I'll be writing you soon sis!
I have often wondered if living a regret free life was possible. I've been trying on my own but I think I will have to find this book for myself. It really sounds great.
