About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Anomaly by Krista McGee- This World is Only the Beginning

My Thoughts:

Krista McGee's Anomaly is a chilling look into the future.  Production, perfection, and harmony are the goals without the distraction of emotions, questions and love.  People are now genetically engineered by "The Ten"(a handful of scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world).  Marriage and love no longer exist.

People that becomes sick or experience emotion are considered anomalies.  They are taken away and never seen again.

Thalli experiences emotion but manages to keep it under control.  But she can only do this for so long.  Once it is discovered that she's an anomaly, her life is in great danger.  With the aid of her friend, Berk (a scientist), Thalli is kept as a test subject, of sorts.  How long can they continue this charade and what does the future hold for Thalli and Berk?

I absolutely loved Anomoly.  The storyline is compelling and incredibly unique.  I normally don't care for sci fi but Anomoly had me in it's clutches on the first page.  Thalli is richly described and beautifully flawed.  Her ability to care for others and trust in this futuristic society is what makes readers adore her.  I fell for both Berk and Stone, although appearances can be deceiving.  The real shining star of Anomoly is the character, John.  John is now in his 90's, yet he remembers the world before the nuclear war.  He also knows the Designer (God) as his savior and teaches Thalli that there is more than "The 10".  Much, much more.  Their world is only the beginning.

Back Cover:

Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.
Decades before Thalli’s birth, the world ended in a nuclear war. But life went on deep underground, thanks to a handful of scientists known as The Ten. Since then, they have genetically engineered humans to be free from emotions in the hopes that war won’t threaten their lives again.
But Thalli was born with the ability to feel emotions and a sense of curiosity she can barely contain. She has survived so far thanks to her ability to hide those differences. But Thalli’s secret is discovered when she is overwhelmed by the emotion in an ancient piece of music.
She is quickly scheduled for annihilation, but her childhood friend, Berk, convinces The Ten to postpone her death and study her instead. While in the scientists’ Pod, Thalli and Berk form a dangerous alliance, one strictly forbidden by the constant surveillance in the pods.
As her life ticks away, she hears rumors of someone called the Designer—someone even more powerful than The Ten. What’s more, the parts of her that have always been an anomaly could in fact be part of a much larger plan. And the parts of her that she has always guarded could be the answer she’s been looking for all along.
Thalli must sort out what to believe and who she can trust, before her time runs out…

A Bride for All Seasons- Love Year Round in 4 Charming Novellas

My Thoughts:

A Bride for All Seasons is four delightfully romantic novellas brought together in one book.  Each story details a journey of the heart- a mail-order bride traveling to meet her intended husband.  What does the future hold for them at the end of their travels?  After all, In 1870, love is a luxury and finding a wife is often more like hiring an employee...
This is where Melvin Hitchcock, owner and editor of The Hitching Post Mail-Order Bride Catalogue, steps in.:)  He makes it his business to edit the letters to "assist" his clients.  They have no idea their letters are being altered and the results are frustrating, to say the least!  God uses all this for His purpose, though, and we discover that love truly can conquer all.

A Bride for All Seasons features the writings of four gifted authors: Margaret Brownley, Debra Clopton, Mary Connealy, & Robin Lee Hatcher.  Their stories will make you will laugh, cry, and ultimately swoon!  I truly enjoyed how they wove history into their story lines.  The 1870's were beyond difficult (I never would have survived!) with people traveling West to find land, indians, outlaws, complications in childbirth, and disease.  Yet, everyone needs a home and wants to be loved.  A Bride for All Seasons is sweet romance combined with the raw elements of outlaws, sickness, bitter cold weather and heartache.  I could almost feel the desperation of the characters as they struggled with matters of the heart.

I loved all the stories, but my personal favorite was Winter Wedding Bells.  I really enjoyed the characters of David and Megan and watching them grow as a couple. David is deathly ill when they marry, but Megan doesn't discover this until after the wedding.  After the initial shock, she promises to stay with him and is determined to do all she can for David and his little boys.  I'll admit I cried more than a few tears while turning the pages!

It All Started with an Ad in a Mail Order Bride Catalogue…
Melvin Hitchcock of the Hitching Post Mail Order Bride Catalog isn’t dishonest—not exactly. If he tweaks his clients’ applications a bit, it’s because he’s looking out for their best interests.
This charming bouquet of novellas introduces four Hitching Post prospects in the year 1870, each one eager for second chances . . . and hungry for happiness. Year in, year out, they’ll learn that love often comes in unexpected packages.
And Then Came Spring by Margaret Brownley
Mary-Jo has been unlucky all her life. But who would guess she’d travel halfway across the country to meet her match . . . only to find him dead!
An Ever-After Summer by Debra Clopton
Ellie had no idea she’s not what Matthew ordered. And what’s wrong with being a “Bible thumper” anyway? She’s determined to show him she’s tougher than she looks—and just the girl he needs.
Autumn’s Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher
Luvena would be perfect for Clay if she didn’t come with kids. But kids are a deal breaker, especially in a rough-and-trouble mining town. The trouble is, there’s no money to send them back. . .
Winter Wedding Bells by Mary Connealy
David’s convinced he’s not long for the world. He needs someone to mother his boys when he’s gone—nothing more. Can plucky Irish Megan convince him to work at living instead of dying?

Four novellas, four brides, and four stories to fall in love with.

all in a summer's day

Last weekend was hot, as summer should be.  It wiped me out and I may have taken a nap.
or two.

A slumber party was in the works and the sweet little friend coming over tends to get a bit homesick late at night.

The goal was to tire the girls out, so...

We hit the Farmer's Market first.

The flowers were glorious!

Then, it was on to shaving cream fun.
The girls smelled amazing!

Next time we're making water balloons to help rinse off.:)

So impressed with the fort they created.
That's my kind of camping.

Playtime with Snookie.
Don't be fooled. He sleeps all. the. time.

Snacktime.

A marathon of Clue.
My favorite.

Zhou Zhou pets are cuter than I thought.
Brown Sugar is our newest pet.

Multi-tasking.

By the way, the girls fell asleep immediately and slept later than me.

Bible Stories Painting Book 2- Summer Fun at Home & On the Go!

This fabulous and fun book, Bible Stories Painting Book 2, recently traveled with us with us on vacation.

Why?

Because vacations always include downtime.  You know, when Mom can read and Dad can take a nap?

Yes, that is the definition of a real vacation.:)

My 10 year old daughter loved it.  I'd say the perfect age for this book would be between 3 and 7 but 10 year olds will certainly enjoy it, too.  Mine sure did.

There are 4 huge pages of paint palettes!  To get started, fill one of the glasses they put in your hotel room with water. (Personally, I try not to drink out of the glasses as I saw a 20/20 episode where women use them to wash their pantyhose.  truth.) *Be sure to pack a paintbrush as one isn't included with the book.  Yes, I did pack one!  I was in top form when packing, although that's not always the case.*

Choose one of the 16 precious scenes from the Old and New Testament and then paint away!  It's simple, neat (smile) and will keep your little ones busy for a looooonnggg time.;)

This book would be perfect to use at home, at the pool, camping, and even at the doctor's office.  Perfect for vacation, too!   You may even find yourself asking for a turn.:)

Bible Stories Painting Book 2 is created by Juliet David and illustrated by Simon Abbot.  $7.99

My daughter truly enjoyed painting as well as reading the gentle, simple words explaining the pictures.  I loved that there was no mess to clean up!

5 on Friday

Colonial Williamsburg.
Who's up for a field trip?
ME!!

September 7- 22, 2013

The whole fiasco with Paula Deen is just plain silly.
Having your life destroyed over something you said a million years ago?
Sweet Southern Belle, it's just all shades of wrong.

Free subscription to Home Educating Family Magazine through midnight TONIGHT.  Normally $25!  Ordered mine last night.
Boom.

Monsters U.
Really cute.
But Monsters Inc. is still my favorite.;)

Is that a ladybug??
Come make a wish!
(my fave part)

It's Perfectly Normal??
Not at my house.

The book below is beyond disturbing, dear friends.
Recommended for ages 10+ yet it was not allowed in a jail as they felt it was pornographic??

Currently pulled from the shelf at my library for review.

I have some young followers on my blog so I'm not going to post the youtube video.
Parents need to be informed.
Check it out.

smiling chameleon

I'm tired.  Exhausted, in fact.  All my life I've tried to please others so they would like me.  It's just who I am.  A people pleaser and occasionally a door mat extraordinaire.  A smiling chameleon.  I can be whoever you want me to be.

Many (many) years ago my kindergarten teacher wrote in the comment section of my report card- "Lori needs to stop caring so much about what people think about her."

Wow.

While walking this evening I realized this isn't the life God wants me to lead.  He made me and loves me
all. the. time.

I can't earn His love.
I can't buy His love.
It's just simply, beautifully there for me.

Starting tomorrow I'm going to focus on my family.  They love me, too.  Much more than I deserve.  Friends come and go but the Lord is with you forever.

Do you know how much you are loved?  God adores you- treasures you- more than anyone ever could.  You don't have to be thinner, more popular, have a nicer car, or even belong to the country club clique.

Be you.
God loves you just the way you are.

No more smiling chameleon.

July 10 on 10

I'm always excited when I remember to post my 10 on 10.
In case you've never heard of this, it's 10 pictures taken on the 10th day of each month.
A little glimpse into your life.:)

I told me friend, Christy, she needed to post her 10 on 10 today.
She's new to the blog world so be a sweetie and say "Hi", would you?

I had 2 1/2 hours to myself this morning.
Just enough time to swing by Starbucks, read a few chapters and chat with my Mom.

Absolutely refreshed,I was ready to take on the world.

Picked up my girls from camp. Yoga, body scrub making and fun were on the menu today.

I love it when everyone is happy.

I'm a Belieber and a Directioner.
Their music makes me happy.

Not sure why people hate on them.

I guess I need to face the fact that Lady Gaga and Pitbull are much better role models. (wink)

Second pair of pointe shoes.
She told me they don't hurt but my theory is that the thrill of dancing dulls the pain.

Hope she always feels this way.

A crayon box of color from our garden.
I could look at them all day.

Making progress.
Monsters Inc. was cute.  Have you seen it?

Yes, we do school year round.
Life of Fred makes Math (a little) fun.

It's finally feeling like summer.
Yuck.
Time for doing puzzles and reading books- inside.

Just a sliver of a moon tonight.

Like mother, like daughter.
:)
