"Yes darling, Too Silly Sisters is having a sale!"
About Me
- mysteryhistorymom
- Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Lori at toosillysisters@cox.net

Pokemon Club is going well. The kids absolutely love it! I think some of the cards are cute but basically I just don't get it. I collected Charlie's Angels cards soooo long ago and loved them. Then one day I threw them away. sigh...

Nancy Drew class
Today was our first day of Nancy Drew class! I have a class of 13 children- both girls AND boys. I was surprised to have boys interested, but why not? Everyone enjoys a good mystery! Today we discussed:
We also learned a bit about the history of Nancy Drew and how she dates back to the 1930's. She has changed a lot over the years! The children were surprised to learn that Carolyn Keene was not a real person. A number of men and women were responsible for writing the Nancy Drew mystery series but they all used the pen name Carolyn Keene. We watched a clip of this old Nancy Drew movie and at a later date we will watch a clip of the Nancy Drew TV show.
We played a "Who am I" game at the beginning of class. I taped a name of a character in the book on each child's back. They then had to go around the room and ask people "yes" or "no" questions to discover who they were. Detective work!
Hannah Gruen, Nancy's housekeeper and friend, prepared hot chocolate and homemade cookies at the beginning of the book for company, so we enjoyed the same refreshments while we discussed the book! (They were made by my very own Ned Nickerson!)
We then talked about how important it is to have excellent observation skills to be a good detective. This book helped us work on our technique.
Of course, we had to test our observation skills! The children were allowed to look at this box full of various items for one minute. Then I closed the box and they had to write down everything they remembered including color, number, etc. It was not an easy task!
Here they are looking at the items in the box. They were really intrigued!
Next week we will discuss The Secret of Red Gate Farm. I can't wait!

Shaun Cassidy
The girls and I have been watching the old "Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys" TV show. Oh, how I loved Shaun Cassidy... 30 years ago. I had forgotten all the songs and how cute he was! sigh... I was afraid that my girls would laugh at my first crush, but guess what?? They think he's cute, too! YES! They love to hear the songs! They love his hair, his smile, etc. So, I have been happily dancing down memory lane the past few days.:) I even have his greatest hits in my cart at Amazon.com! Who was your first crush? Did anyone get to see Shaun in concert? I did- twice! By the way, Shaun still rocks!!!
Here's a little treat for you! Shaun as Joe Hardy!
