About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Moms' Night Out & Moms' Night Out and other things I miss- Must Read Books for Moms!

My Thoughts:

I was given the most amazing opportunity to review two books this past month.  Moms' Night Out, by Tricia Goyer, and Moms' Night Out and other things I miss (devotions to help you survive) by Kerri Pomarolli.  Before I tell you about them, I have to mention that it was an absolute privilege to read these books.  They are both incredibly real, which is refreshing, and give hope to all moms!  They are also extremely laugh out loud hilarious!  But be prepared, as they will touch your heart and make you cry as well.  I absolutely loved reading each and every page as they were words I needed desperately to see.  Tricia Goyer and Kerri Pomarolli don't candy coat the beloved, but often challenging, role of mommy hood. They let us know that we're not alone in our moments of doubt, our episodes of frustration and the days we lose our temper.  I felt like I'd been given a big hug when I was done reading!

Mom's Night Out, by Tricia Goyer, is the story of three friends who plan a lovely evening out- something they haven't enjoyed in quite a long time.  Sounds simple enough, right?  Well, crazy things happen and they end up getting involved with the police, visiting a tattoo parlor, searching for a missing baby, having their car stolen and more!  It's one of the funniest, most heart felt books I've read in a long time!  What made it particularly endearing is that almost every character get to play the part of a hero.  I actually went to see the movie when I was 3/4 of the way through the book and I was thrilled that they had stuck to the storyline.  Even the dialogue was the same!  Delightful.  Tricia Goyer nails the story of the stay at home mom.  She knows the heart of every mom, though, and how we rarely, if ever, feel like we are "enough".  Tender, funny, and exciting- Moms' Night Out has it all!

Moms' Night Out and other things I miss, by Kerri Pomarolli, is a devotional that every mom needs by her bed.  The passages are short and sweet but pack a punch!  No mom has time for a long read and we want to be entertained as well as blessed.  Kerri Pomarolli does this and more.  She's so beautifully real!  When her daughter said "she can't stop thinking of all the bad things (mom) she's done to her" I stopped in my tracks!  This has happened to ME!  Oh, the mommy guilt!  Her 6 year old was just being honest, but it stings!  Ouch!  And the conversation that followed...  Oh, yeah, I've been there, too.  Mommy fail.  So glad I'm not alone!  If you want to laugh a lot, cry a little and feel God's love surround you, get your hands on this devotional!  It's a tender blessing for all mommies, Pinterest moms or not. ;)

About the book:

Moms' Night Out is a novelization of the hilarious family comedy that celebrates real family life---where everything can go wrong and still turn out all right.
All Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and conversation . . . a long-needed moms' night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation and food not served in a bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for a few hours-what could go wrong?
Chronicling one night out gone awry, three harried moms, their husbands, a sister-in-law with a misplaced baby, a tattoo parlor owner, a motorcycle gang, and a bewildered cabbie all learn to embrace the beautiful mess called parenting. This book spotlights the unfulfilled expectations and serial self-doubts many moms feel . . . then reassures us that the key is raising kids in a loving home. Mom's Night Out is an endearing, true-to-life comedy.

Moms Night Out Tricia Goyer Kerri Pomarolli

Motherhood can sometimes seem like survival of the fittest. Every day brings its own troubles, and by the end of the day, you’re spent. Between school, soccer practice, cleaning, laundry, cooking dinner, putting away dishes, and keeping your kids from going at each others’ throats, the last thing on your mind is getting away for an evening. If that’s you, you’re invited to take part in Tricia and Kerri's No More Frumpy Mommy challenge.

Tricia and Kerri will choose 10 winners to receive a Fandango gift card to see Moms' Night Out, as well as copies of Moms' Night Out (the book) and Moms' Night Out and Other Things I Miss. One grand-prize winner will receive $200 to put toward her own moms' night out or her own moms' night out "ride" (getting her car detailed and cleaned).
*I was given these books by Litfuse in exchange for my honest opinion.  No other compensation was received.*

What fun! I could have used the humor of all that when I was a young mama. Now at 69 I am a young grandma! Have a delightfully blessed night!

Y'know, I wanted so much to see the recent movie made from the book Mom's Night Out, but they weren't showing it ANYWHERE near us. So frustrating, b/c the trailer looked hysterical. Will wait for Netflix. Thanks for the great reviews!
