About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe by Max Lucado- Encore!!

My Thoughts:

Coffee, Angels and the God Blog. Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is a treasure! I'll admit that when I first heard of this book it sounded a bit... hokey. I wasn't interested and didn't sign up to review it. But as time passed and I read the raving reviews, I was intrigued. Luckily, another opportunity presented itself and I didn't waste a second! My daughters (12 and 17) and I all vouch for the charm of this story. We read it together in the car over a few weeks and they each asked me to not read without them present! They didn't want to miss a page- and neither did I. :)

Chelsea Chambers is our leading lady. Recently separated from her NFL star husband (he cheated on her) and anxious to begin a new life with her 2 children. A charming coffee shop has been in her family since her grandmother opened it many years ago and it's now all hers. Sounds lovely, but chain coffee shops abound, Chelsea is low on money, her children need her and her one employee ditches her after her grand reopening is way beyond grand. Business is looking pretty bleak...

Then, out of nowhere, appears the clumsy, eager, endearing, oddly dressed Manny. He's not what he appears to be and we all fell in love with him immediately! (Mr. Lucado- Please consider making this book the first in a series. We'd love to see Manny again!) He's just what Chelsea needs- a friend to lift her spirits, a hard worker, and a talented barista. Now if he could just figure out how to walk through the swinging doors...

Business really begins to boom when a router is installed that directs all customers to a blog. A very special blog that allows everyone to ask one question. It appears that God himself answers the questions- whether they are in English, Spanish, Chinese, etc. Is it real? The answers are compelling and seem legitimate...

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is utterly delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it with my daughters. It made us laugh! And it made me cry, too. We do have a few questions, though. Will Manny every get to see the last movie in the Star Wars trilogy? Is  Mr. Darling really allergic to raspberries? Will Bo remarry? Did Chelsea really like riding the roller coasters? Needless to say, we'd love to read a sequel. :)

What if you could ask God anything? What would you ask? And how would he answer?
Chelsea Chambers is on her own. After a public split from her NFL superstar husband, Chelsea takes a bold step out of the limelight and behind the counter of the Higher Grounds Café, an old-fashioned coffee shop in dire need of reinvention. But when her courage, expert planning, and out-of-this-world cupcakes fail to pay the bills, this newly single mom finds herself desperate for help. Better yet, a miracle.
Then a curious stranger lands at Chelsea's door, and with him, an even curiouser string of events. Soon, customers are flocking to the Higher Grounds Café, and not just for the cupcakes and cappuccino. They've come for the internet connection to the divine. Now the café has become the go-to place for people in search of answers to life's biggest questions.
When a catastrophe strikes and her ex comes calling, Chelsea begins to wonder if the whole universe is conspiring against her quest to make it on her own. After a shocking discovery opens her eyes to the unseen world around her, Chelsea finds the courage to ask, and heaven answers in a most unexpected way.
