About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Carolina Reckoning by Lisa Carter

Synopsis for
Carolina Reckoning
By Lisa Carter

Alison wanted her cheating husband gone, not dead...

When 30-something housewife, Alison Monaghan discovers proof of her husband's infidelity in a photograph with a mysterious woman, she must decide how to confront Frank when he returns home from work. Despite the influence of her best friend Valerie, a strong Christian, Alison remains aloof from God and is determined to handle this crisis her own way. But Alison may not get that chance.

Frank never makes it home. Soon his body is found on a lonely back-country road in antebellum Weathersby Historic Park where Frank served on the board of directors and where Alison, with a degree in landscape design, was a volunteer garden docent. Homicide detective Mike Barefoot, a Cherokee native from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, immediately puts Alison at the top of his suspect list. He finds himself drawn to her--and not just because she had motive for the crime. As an army veteran, Mike usually keeps his emotional walls high. And as a detective, he knows not to get involved with murder suspects. So why he is so attracted to Alison? Can he fight his feelings for her—and the stirrings in his heart toward God?

My Thoughts:

Carolina Reckoning is an engaging mystery with a cast of interesting characters and a constant focus on the Lord.  I appreciated how the main characters were able to find peace and guidance through God in spite of the danger that surrounded them.  Shots fired, anonymous phone calls and silent intruders set the scene for chaos and suspicion!  You just never know what's going to happen next...  A few of my favorite characters were Valerie, Alison's best friend, and Hilary Munro, another dear friend.  I admired their strength and the fact that they stuck by Alison while the world judged her as a killer.  Alison and her children are determined to find Frank's murderer and detective Mike Barefoot is on a quest to make sure they stay alive while searching for clues.  I thought it was sweet how Mike Barefoot became so protective of Alison and her children but also felt that their adult relationship was a bit rushed and not overly believable.  The ending was quite a surprise, though...
