About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Captive by Ashley Smith review and giveaway!

The winner is Shaylin!!! Congratulations! Send me your address and I'll get this incredible book in the mail to you! (toosillysisters@cox.net)

My Thoughts:

Captive is the amazing, true story of two broken people- one is a mother (Ashley Smith) drowning in a drug-filled life after the death of her husband, the other is a man (Brian Nichols) on the run after allegedly killing 3 people. They are both born again Christians. Not quite the picture of your typical Sunday school members, right? But you know what, every one of us has struggles, secrets, regrets and sadness in our lives. Every. one. Thank goodness, through God's love, we can have the hope of forgiveness.

Captive is a very easy read. Ashley Smith shares her thoughts and memories with us as she relives the fateful night that Brian Nichols came into her life. Did God send him her way? I believe that He did. She was terrified, and rightfully so, while being held captive in her own home. Guns, pepper spray, utility cords, were all at her captor's disposal. Prayer and the presence of the Lord got her through this horrific ordeal, along with her honesty and frank conversation with Brian Nichols. She connected with him and I believe that God worked through her. The story is compelling, pule pounding and thought provoking. The beauty of the story is how God worked a miracle through two broken people that had almost given up on life.  I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see the movie!
