About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! A Heartbeat Away by S. Dionne Moore

My Thoughts:

A Heartbeat Away is a historical novel filled with plenty of drama, action, emotion and romance.  It takes place during the Civil War when two brothers venture out to fight for what they believe in.  One of the brothers, Joe, becomes badly wounded but is rescued and brought to Beth Bumgartner and her grandmother.  They tend to his wounds and a friendship is kindled among the chaos, fear and gunshots.  But where is Joe's brother?

S. Dionne Moore definitely captured the emotions and passion of war in A Heartbeat Away.  She doesn't candy coat the brutality and desperation felt by those caught in the midst of battle.  The words are often raw and occasionally difficult to read, yet the author is true to her characters and storyline.  Runaway slaves, families desperately fleeing the enemy, badly wounded soldiers (often covered with lice) and gun shots occurring during the day and night all paint a tragic but realistic portrait of the Civil War.  The two shining stars are Beth and her grandmother, Gerta, who do everything in their power to help the wounded and the hungry.  Throughout the pages of this book there are bright moments captured through memories shared and the comfort of kind words and actions.  A Heartbeat Away is bittersweet, as any well written story of the Civil War should be.  History lovers that appreciate a touch of romance will enjoy this book.

More About the Book:

When a band of runaway slaves brings Union-loyal Beth Bumgartner a wounded Confederate soldier named Joe, it is the catalyst that pushes her to defy her pacifist parents and become a nurse during the Battle of Antietam.
Her mother's mysterious goodbye gift is filled with quilt blocks that bring comfort to Beth during the hard days and lonely nights, but as she sews each block, she realizes there is a hidden message of faith within the pattern that encourages and sustains her. Reunited with Joe, Beth learns his secret and puts the quilt's message to its greatest test---but can betrayal be forgiven?

Dionne Moore is a historical romance author who resides in South Central PA with her family, surrounded by the beautiful Cumberland Valley and lots of fun, historically rich locations. She is a weekly contributor to "The Borrowed Book," a blog for book-lovers, and "Cozy Mystery Magazine," for all things cozy mystery.

Catch a Falling Star by Beth K. Vogt

My Thoughts:

Beth K. Vogt knows that everyone deserves a happy ending.  In Catch a Falling Star she tells the story of Dr. Kendall Haynes, an attractive 36 year old physician who ponders life and what God has planned for her.  She adores her Goldendoodle "Sully", has a knack for fixing Jeeps (this turns out the be quite important!) and has a no nonsense approach to relationships.  Kendall also longs to discover her happily ever after as she watches all her friends walk down the aisle.  Griffin Walker, a 38 year old (hunky!) Air Force pilot who has found himself to be the guardian to his 16 year old adopted brother, Ian, is lonely and unsure of what God has in store for him. Vertigo has grounded him from flying and the frustration is almost too much for him to take.  Kendall and Griffin appear to be complete opposites and that's what makes them so great together!  Of course, there's the matter of Dr. Heath Parker...

I adored Kendall Haynes.  She's smart, independent and not afraid to speak her mind.  She cares deeply for her patients, coworkers, friends and God.  I loved reading her reflections on the past- memories of rebuilding her Jeep with her Dad and fairy tales and memories shared with her precious Mina.  I admired the spunk Kendall displayed when she refused to give up Mina's ring!  Beth K. Vogt has a gift for creating characters with unique story lines that touch your heart.  Wish You Were Here (about a runaway bride) and now Catch a Falling Star- a physician who fears she may have sacrificed love for a career.  Please keep your fabulous stories coming, Beth K. Vogt!:)

What does a girl do when life doesn’t go according to her plan?At 36, Kendall Haynes has seen some of her dreams come true. She’s a family physician helping kids with severe allergies and asthma achieve more fulfilling lives—a childhood struggle she knows all too well. But the feeling of being “the kid never picked” looms large when romance continues to evade her and yet another one of her closest friends gets engaged. Are Kendall’s dreams of having it all—a career, a husband, children—nothing more than childish wishing upon a star? Should she hold out for her elusive Plan A? Dust off Plan B? Or is it time to settle? God says he knows the plans he has for her—why can’t Kendall figure them out and be content with her life?
Griffin Walker prefers flying solo—both as an Air Force pilot and in his personal life. But a wrong choice and health problems pulled him out of the cockpit. His attempts to get out of “flying a desk” are complicated by his parents’ death—making Griffin the reluctant guardian of his sixteen-year-old brother, Ian. How did his life get so off course? Can God get his life back on track … or has there been a divine plan all along?
Catch a Falling Star reminds readers that romance isn’t just for twenty-somethings and that sometimes letting go of your “wish I may, wish I might” dreams is the only way to embrace everything God has waiting for you.

Beth K. Vogt believes happy endings aren't limited to novels. She provides her readers with a happily ever after woven through with humor, reality, and God's lavish grace. Married to her husband Rob for 31 years, as the mom of three adult children and one 10-year-old, Beth embraces her less-than-perfect life. Her degree in journalism helped establish her as a nonfiction writer. Beth was the editor of Connections, the leadership magazine for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) International, for four years and continues to be a consulting editor, as well as a bimonthly columnist for MOMSnext, their ezine for moms of school-age children. After focusing on magazine writing and her book Baby Changes Everything: Embracing and Preparing for Motherhood after 35 (thanks to a surprise pregnancy at 41), Beth turned a season of burnout into her debut novel, Wish You Were Here.

    Summer Bucket List Craft

What are your big plans for this summer?
The beach is calling my name, but, sadly, it's not in our plans.

    Soooo...
We're going to focus on the fun we will have! :)

Found this awesome framed chalkboard at TJ Maxx.

Ordered some fabulous washi tape (I've been anxiously awaiting a chance to try it!) and got busy with my crafting buddy today.

The designs are terrifically happy!  Just proceed as pictured above and you can make your own washi tape banner.  It works just like regular tape, but this stuff makes you smile.:)

Then, trim the edges, if you choose, and hang!

Look up and giggle, smile or sing a song.  In the words of Martha Stewart, "It's a good thing."

What does your Summer Bucket List look like?  I'd love to hear about it!  We need 2 more ideas.;)

It was soooo worth the road trip.

A shining example of "fun for the whole family!"

("Aquarium" restaurant. Looked like the poor eel above had a tummy ache.  lol)

We all attended camp activities or listened to speakers.
Some even snuck away to Starbucks.
    Or so I heard.;)

My cutie even brought along her travel journal.
I loved watching her document everything we did that weekend.

It was wonderful meeting fellow homeschoolers and making new friends.

    (Rainforest Cafe)

At dinner we'd all catch up on what we did that day.
    A mini-vacation!

We are absolutely attending next year.  Do you planning on coming?

    Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade

    My Thoughts:

I loved "My Stubborn Heart" by Becky Wade and was thrilled to be asked to review her new release, "Undeniably Yours"!  Meg Cole (I envision her as a cross between Reese Witherspoon and Virginia Madsen) is a wealthy young lady who's struggling in a situation she was hoping to avoid.  Her father has passed away and she's now responsible for the family empire- Cole Oil.  Suffering from intense stress and panic attacks, Meg is in need of rescuing- and love.  In walks handsome, Bo Porter (I heard him as a young Trace Adkins- minus the ponytail), ex-Marine and all Cowboy...

I didn't think that Becky Wade could top "My Stubborn Heart" but she proved me wrong!  Her gift of creating characters with vulnerabilities and depth is once again showcased beautifully.  It was utterly endearing how Meg felt safe with Bo and I adored reading how she took his breath away, from the very beginning.  Swoon!  I found myself caring for both Meg and Bo and eagerly read the book to see what would happen!  In a way, they both need to be "rescued"and that's what makes a truly magical love story, in my book.:)  I can't wait to read the next release in the Porter family series!

    Back Cover:

When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of his empire. The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s Thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.
Bo knows he ought to resent the woman who’s determined to take from him the only job he ever wanted. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them and earn her love.
Just when Meg realizes she can no longer deny the depth of her feelings for Bo, their fragile bond is broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their relationship–and their belief that God can work through every circumstance–survive?

Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck (Swoon!)

                                                                My Thoughts:

After dating for 12 years (yes, 12!), Susanna Truitt's boyfriend tells her that "he's found the right ring, but not the right girl."  Wow.  All is not lost, though, as fate steps in.  There's a chance meeting under Lover's Oak where Susanna is rescued by (could he truly be?) a prince??  Nate Kenneth (soon to be King Nathaniel) is gorgeous, polite, funny, and even willing to clean toilets!  Don't get me started on that charming English accent (Yes!  I could hear it while I was reading the story.)  He's traveling incognito on holiday and has no plans to fall in love, until he meets spunky Susanna...

I loved reading Susanna and Nathaniel's story!  Nate is the kind of prince every girl dreams about.  The chapter where he rushes Susanna to her father's bedside was utterly dashing!  I was surprised how long it took for her to figure out Nate was royalty but, then again, it's not every day (or any day!) you get to meet a prince!  Once Upon a Prince is delightfully romantic and refreshingly engaging and entertaining. From St. Simon's Island across the Pond to England, you'll never guess what is going to happen.  Yes, you may be pretty certain of how the book will end (delightfully!) but the twists and turns involved along the way will keep you quite entertained!

The Royal Wedding Series Book One

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.
The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon's Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.
Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation.
It's the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

    The Offering by Angela Hunt

    My Thoughts:

Children.  A precious gift, often taken for granted in the rush of life.  But, if you will, please pause a second and consider what you would do if you couldn't have a child?  Your dream of a little one just wasn't happening.  To what lengths would you go to to have a child?  To add a precious member to your family?  Adoption, fostering, or even...  hiring a surrogate?  The Offering ponders these questions and truly makes you look inside yourself.  The main character, Mandy, is intelligent, loving and motivated.  She longs to help her family financially and at the same time help another couple that is unable to conceive a child.  Becoming a surrogate seems like an answer to prayer.  I appreciated Mandy's position and enjoyed her as a main character, although I didn't always agree with all her choices.  Angela Hunt does a heartfelt and thorough job of representing both sides of the surrogate/parent relationship.  I actually became emotionally attached to the characters in this book.  About 3/4 of the way through the story (while at the salon) I was blindsided by an event I didn't anticipate and I actually gasped out loud!  The Offering is emotional and intense and portrays a fictional story that could very well become a reality.  The ending is still on my mind and I wonder what decision I would've made?

    About The Offering:

After growing up as an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can't afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple. She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter. . .
Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy's world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.
Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened---could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what's best for the little boy she has never known.

    Meet Angela:
