About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Shadowed by Grace by Cara C. Putman

My Thoughts:

WWII, romance, mystery and faith in the Lord are all found in Shadowed by Grace, written by Cara P. Putman.  The main character, Rachel, has never known the identity of her father but, against her mother's wishes, she's determined to find him.  Years ago in Italy, her parents fell in love and then never saw each other again.  War is raging in Europe and to make matters worse, Rachel's mother is lying in a hospital bed due to complications from tuberculosis.  Rachel is desperate to locate her father in hopes that he can help and the newspaper assignment to Italy comes just in time...

I loved the history and romance of Shadowed by Grace.  WWII is one of my favorite time periods- the music, the brave soldiers, the fashions!  I know we romanticize it quite a bit but it's due to an effort to heal after the terrible tragedy and loss that occurred. Rachel, our heroine, is a determined young lady yet her heart is aching due to her mother's illness, the pain of never knowing her father and, most of all, feeling that her heavenly father just doesn't care about her.  I enjoyed watching Rachel's faith grow- in her fellow man and God- as the story developed.  My favorite character was the dashing Lieutenant Scott Lindstrom!  He's assigned to work with Rachel and the adventure that follows is life changing for both of them.  Loved the romance!

About the book: She found peace in a time of war.

Desperate to save her dying mother, an American woman accepts her newspaper's assignment to travel to Italy where she takes photographs dangerously close to the front lines during World War II. But Rachel's real motive in this journey is to find the father she never knew, an artist she hopes can offer the comfort and support both she and her mother need to survive at such a desperate time.

In her quest, Rachel becomes involved with what will become the Monuments Men effort to save great monuments and works of art from the Third Reich. Soon enough she will find more than she ever imagined---in war, in love, and in God.
