About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! The Promise (by Beth Wiseman) takes your breath away!

My Thoughts:

The Promise begins with exactly that- a promise.  Saving a life is Mallory Hammond's obsession due to the fact that she couldn't save her cousin's life years ago.  In order to move on with her other dreams she simply must complete this precious task- no matter what the cost.  The opportunity presents itself, but not in the way that Mallory ever imagined.  In order to save a life she must also be able to save her own.  The Promise is a heart-pounding, pulse racing story (based on actual events) involving love, lies and make your blood run cold danger.  At times I had to put the book down just to catch my breath!  I was blown away by the dedication (and naivete) of the main character, Mallory Hammond.  At the same time I was disgusted and saddened to read of the horrible way human beings can treat one another when it's "accepted" and even embraced in another culture.  The Promise is eye-opening and(Made my think of the movie Not Without my Daughter with Sally Field) terrifying, yet kindness and love are ever present.  An incredible book and one that you won't soon forget!

About the book:

Mallory's search for happiness leads her to a faraway place. There she finds heartache, betrayal---and danger.
Mallory Hammond is determined that no one will stand in the way of her goal---to save a life. She had that chance years ago, and she failed to take it, leaving her adrift and in search of the real meaning of her life. Finally, she meets a man online from a volatile corner of the world who offers her the chance to find that purpose. But she will have to leave everyone she loves behind in order to take it.
Tate Webber has loved Mallory for many years. He understands that Mallory will never be happy with him until her deepest heart's desire is satisfied. When Mallory decides to travel across the world to fulfill her dreams, Tate begs her not to go but tries to give her the space she needs. Mallory embarks on her dangerous journey only to discover how swiftly and easily promises can be broken. And Mallory can only pray that she will make it out alive.
Inspired by actual events, The Promise is a riveting love story that asks the question: how far will we go for love?
