About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! I'm a Girl Scout Survivor.

It took me many, many years to get over my fear of sewing.
I just knew that needle was definitely going through my finger during the puppet craft in Girl Scouts.  (Whatever happened to that puppet?  Did I even make one?)

Somehow I still earned the patch?
(Notice there is no sewing machine.)

Don't even get me started on camping.
Oh, alright.

I refused to use the latrines for the whole weekend.
(What can I say- I was blessed with an amazing bladder.)

I stayed up all night. every night. to make sure no spiders got in my sleeping bag.  Truth.

I washed my hands with a bar of soap stuck in a pair of old pantyhose.  Rinsed with water dripping from an upside down milk carton.  Oh, the freshness.

No one took a shower.

Here's my patch (above).  I can show it off after all these years.  I survived.  I'm a camping survivor.

Those girls look like they are having fun.
(I believe they had a shower and flush potties.  Perhaps some bug spray for the spiders, too. )

But back to sewing.
Which I do love now.  See, there is hope!

Joann's has awesome sewing classes for kids.  These cuties were able to enjoy some this summer.  Not only that, they were often the ones there!

Before you register, be sure to check for 1/2 price coupons.  Joann's also has special days you can sign up for classes for 1/2 price or Buy 1 get 1 FREE.

I believe it cost $17.50 (with my 1/2 price coupon) for this 3 hour class.  Not bad, especially for a private lesson!

The girls made appliqued cupcake t-shirts.  Super cute.

They also made quilted pillows.

I could take pictures of them all day.

I'm so glad my cutie is not afraid of the sewing machine.
Wonder if we'll ever attempt camping.

Doubt it.

Karen- I was tickled and very pleased that my Mom kept my GS patches. As you can tell I worked hard for them- lol! Perhaps if you had been there I would have had more fun camping.:) Yep, I'm sure of it! Yes, I want to learn to sew and cut patterns, too. I think my sweetie pie may be my teacher now!:) Have a great day! Lori

Hi Lori, I am so proud of you for actually going camping. I wouldn't even agree to go! If I had, I would have been right there with you staying awake to ward off the bugs! So glad you have made friends with the sewing machine now :) I love the cute t-shirts Katie and her friend made. They look fabulous.

Lindsay- We would have been a hoot! How I wish we could have been friends when we were little!:) So glad to have found you as an adult, though. You are such a kindred spirit and a sister in every way to me! Love you.<3 Lori

Lori, I know we would have been best friends as children. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back in time for a day and be playmates? I loved seeing all your old toys when we were at your Mom's house. If there's a next time we must play with them together :) When you come here I'll get my Sindys out and we can play Sindy's together. Deal? Oh and MASH too and lots of crafting :)

I am not a Girl Scout survivor. I never made it passed Brownies. And Momma wouldn't let me go camping--not complaining! :)
The girls did a fantastic job. I don't think our Joanns has classes. I'll have to check on that.

Amy- I BEGGED my parents to let me stay home! You are so lucky that your Mom wouldn't let you go!:) I bet you could teach any class that Joann's offers. You are one talented friend, yes indeed.:) Lori

Tristan- I think I would have liked a cabin much better. Cozier, no? I did enjoy the spiced tea that our leader created and the chocolate fondue at night! mmmmmm! My favorite part was having the job of fire starter in the morning. I made a wonderful "A frame" fire.:) Lori

Oh Lori what an awesome post!! Katie is so precious!! Maybe if you had a cabin like the one we stay in that evens has a air conditioner you could do it! But we do have to use their bathroom and shower. Probably not so much for you but I do alright even the middle of the night trips to the bathroom!! LOL So cool you still have all your badges!! XOXO Love, Fran.
