About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Unrivaled by Siri Mitchell

My Thoughts:

The candy confections "Royal Taffy" and "Fancy Crunch" combine with a sweet romance that are the key ingredients in Unrivaled, by Siri Mitchell.  Lucy Kendall and Charlie Clarke are from rival families- a bit reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet- but they've never met.  After a chance encounter on the street, they take an immediate shine to each other only to later find out that any chance of a future together is destined for disaster.

I liked Unrivaled but felt that it lagged a bit in parts and that the main character, Lucy Kendall, was, for the most part, spoiled and self-centered.  She whined just a bit too much.  I did admire her spunk, though, when she worked with Santa and managed to showcase her candy instead of the competitors!  She was certainly no shrinking violet!  On the other hand, Charlie Clarke was intriguing and gave the romance depth, spirit and heart. I found his rags to riches story quite endearing and his friendship with Alfred Arthur (Lucy's fiancé) was lighthearted and humorous- to say the least!  Unrivaled has bright points of humor that shine but I didn't truly fall in love with this romance.  It was more like a summer fling- a sweet memory and fun while it lasted.

About Unrivaled:
Lucy Kendall returns from a tour of the Continent, her luggage filled with the latest fashions and a mind fired by inspiration. After tasting Europe's best confections, she's sure she'll come up with a recipe that will save her father's struggling candy business and reverse their fortunes. But she soon discovers that their biggest competitor, the cheat who swindled her father out of his prize recipe, has now hired a promotions manager-a cocky, handsome out-of-towner who gets under Lucy's skin.
Charlie Clarke's new role at Standard Manufacturing is the chance of a lifetime. He can put some rough times behind him and reconnect with the father he's never known. The one thing he never counted on, however, was tenacious Lucy Kendall. She's making his work life miserable...and making herself impossible for him to forget.
