About Me

My photo
Mysteries, polka dots, California Rolls, TJ Maxx, cozy blankets, rainy days and getting the first spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar make me smile. Spiders, rude people, cold fingers and toes, baby leashes, people that don't wrap their packages before going to the Post Office, poison ivy and Math (pretty much all of it) make me want to scream. My perfect day would be spent with my wonderful husband and sweet girls- watching movies in our jammies! Of course, having the movie theater to ourselves would be great, too. Please pass the popcorn and M&M's.:) I am saved by the grace of God. He is my constant companion and hears my every prayer. What a blessing! I'd love to hear from you! Rainbows for Rainy Days- Precious Encouragement!

Last year I had the pleasure of reviewing God Knows Your Name by Catherine Campbell.  Every word in that book was a blessing and comfort to my heart.  You see, Catherine has lived through trials in her life- ones that would make some turn away from God (see description below).  How easy it is to find the sunshine when there are no clouds, dear friends!  Catherine has been through storms and made it through- but only by the grace of the Lord.  Her kindness and genuine faith will inspire you and encourage you when you need it most.  I didn't hesitate for one second when I saw that her book Rainbows for Rainy Days was up for review.  I knew that it would be wonderful.  And it is!

Rainbows for Rainy Days is filled with 40 precious and thought-provoking devotions.  Each entry  delivers a warm hug for days when life is not as sunny as we'd hope it would be.  The times when we need an extra dose of courage, encouragement and reassurance.

I was particularly moved by the entry that begins with this verse: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you... for a I am the Lord your God."Isaiah 43:2-3

Catherine Campbell then goes on to share the day when her pediatrician told her, "Mrs. Campbell, don't you realize that your little girl is handicapped- she will never be normal!"

She was thrown into a very dark place of despair until the day she realized that she was never alone.  God was always with her and would "walk us through any storm."

Amen.

I plan on purchasing a pile of Rainbows for Rainy Days.  It's a thoughtful gift for both friends and family, but particularly for those who are struggling in one way or another.  Sometimes we don't know the right words to say so I'll let God (and Catherine Campbell) do the talking for me.  A precious, uplifting collection of devotions.

Thank you so much for creating this book, Catherine.

Description:
40 short devotions on the different aspects of God's love in hard times
Catherine Campbell's experience as a nurse and as the mother of two girls who both inherited a rare genetic condition that required constant care until their deaths at ages 10 and 13 has given her a unique insight into suffering. As an inspirational speaker, she frequently encounters people with tragic stories. And yet she believes that God is Lord and that in both good times and bad, He is always good.
Isaiah 40:31 says, that "those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles." Campbell comments:
How often have you wakened in the morning knowing that the problem, or the pain, or the unpaid bill has not disappeared? We worry and fret ourselves into exhaustion. Yet God has promised us endurance.
The great eagle cannot reach the heights merely by its own strength. As it spreads its impressive wings the bird allows the wind to carry it to places no other bird can go. This kind of flying appears effortless because the eagle trusts in a power bigger than itself . . . the wind!
In this unique devotional, Catherine examines different aspects of God's love for those times when life gets hard. Perfect for anyone needing encouragement in difficult times, Rainbows for Rainy Days gently shows readers how to turn pain over to Him.

*I was given this book by Kregel in exchange for my honest opinion.  No other compensation was received.*

Thank you so much for your very encouraging review of my little devotional 'Rainbows for Rainy Days'. I loved the comment about the readings feeling like "hugs". Such a good description of the promises of God, which is what these readings are all about. Bless you for your words.
